She was making SR20,000 a month By Abdullah Al-Suqair Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — A tiny 60-year-old beggar from Yemen, known to many Jeddah residents, was arrested Sunday and will be deported to her home country. The woman, who is about 50 centimeters tall, had been begging in the city center for more than two decades. She was known to have been energetic as a young person. Initial investigations showed that she was running a gang of beggars in downtown Jeddah and was making as much as SR20,000 a month. She is being detained at a deportation center until she can be sent home. Saeed Al-Shahrani, Director of the Anti-Begging Office in Jeddah, said the woman's 18-year-old nephew, Ayoub, helped her run the network of beggars. He was also looking after her in return for SR1,000 a month. He said she “worked” from 5 P.M. until midnight. Al-Shahrani said the woman's 24-year-old brother Ahmad helped her send the money home. __
