Exposing terrorists' tactics of deception
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 21 - 09 - 2011

terrorism is a political or military effort designed to thwart terrorism. It consists of tactics, strategies and techniques that governments, security forces and even corporations adopt to prevent terrorist threats or response to terrorist acts. Terrorists have also their own tactics, some of which they do not use when they find other effective ways to cow their targets, depending on situations.
If terrorism is part of a broader insurgency, counter-terrorism efforts are also employed as part of a broad counter-insurgency doctrine, and thus political, economic and other related measures may focus on the insurgency than on any specific act of terror.
Counter-terrorism measures include both the detection of potential acts and response to actual acts or terrorism.
This explains why the Kingdom has adopted various methods in its war against terrorism. One of these methods is on the intellectual plane. This stems from its long experience in fighting the menace, aware that military or police action alone can't solve the battle against terror.
In-depth studies conducted by the Kingdom showed that terrorism finds its roots in an ideological ground that advocates extremism and Takfeer. The Takfeer is a non-military tactic that terrorists use to lure people who lack or have little knowledge about Islam. It is a tactic that include branding those who do not believe in their ideas as infidel or use to blaspheme others.
The authorities involved in fighting terrorism in the Kingdom found out that victory in this war can only be achieved by correcting misconceptions and exposing the innovations of the terrorist group. It is role which the Kingdom's scholars have chosen to take.
This explains the holding of a conference on Takfeer which was inaugurated last night in Madina by Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, on behalf of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Prominent scholars from all over the world addressed the conference to erase the misconceptions instilled in the minds of the youth and expose innovations taken by terrorists to harm society in shrewd and deceptive ways.
