CAIRO: If everything works in line with the plan, Egypt will be generating an additional 12 percent of energy from the wind and eight percent from the water and sun, Electricity Minister Hassan Younis told a ceremony held in Cairo over the weekend to mark the Italian-Egyptian Science Day. Energy generated from renewable sources in Egypt represents 10.1 percent, Younis noted. A solar power generation station provides 140 megawatts of electricity, the minister said, adding that tests will be conducted to examine another solar station in mid July. Younis said the Supreme Council of Energy approved granting lands to investors in accordance with the usufruct system in exchange for a fraction of the energy produced annually by the project. The council also exempted components and spare parts of renewable energy stations from customs and sales tax, the minister added.
