JEDDAH: King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has issued a Royal Decree allocating SR476 million a year to the Takaful Charity Foundation set up to support needy pupils in public education schools. Announcing the order Sunday, Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah, Minister of Education and chairman of Takaful and its Trustees Council, said the backing would enable the charity to launch its work and bring into effect its national strategy for social development. “The foundation will provide assistance to orphans and pupils in over 30,000 Ministry of Education schools for boys and girls,” Prince Faisal said. “It is an independent institution with no administrative or financial connection to the Ministry of Education. Its headquarters will be in Riyadh and it will have branches at education administrations in other cities and governorates.” He said the foundation, which was officially established in 2008, will provide clothing, equipment and materials, and also work in collaboration with the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation and private institutions to hold training courses to give students practical skills required in professional life. “The Takaful Charity Foundation will work with the government and private bodies to back its resources and achieve its aims,” he said. “Takaful will also collaborate with education services centers to teach targeted pupils and identify subjects in which they are weak. It will give special focus to pupils, both male and female, in rural areas, where residents do not possess the means for a stable life due to limited income or the inability to move to other regions, as well as pupils whose families experience urgent financial, social or health constraints.”
