Published in The Saudi Gazette on 15 - 06 - 2011

RIYADH: Cisco has developed the information and communications technology (ICT) master plan for the Jazan Economic City (JEC), a 100-million-square-meter smart city project on the Red Sea.
The Cisco Smart Connected Communities team worked alongside with JEC developers, Malaysian MMC Corp. and the Saudi Bin Laden Group (SBG) to create the network architecture plan that will connect the city and provide smart services, Cisco said in a statement Tuesday. This scheme is intended to create attractive environment for global investment of more than SR100 billion ($30 billion). The presence of primary industries in the city will create more than 500,000 new jobs in various industries/services and is oriented to promote smart lifestyle for residents.
Through its knowledge and expertise in connected real estate, Cisco has created the network architecture and generated the service strategy for the city and the ICT master plan to provide JEC with a connected structure that will boost sustainability and enhance smart lifestyle and safe smart services.
Cisco provided JEC with the ICT master plan designed to foster innovation, productivity, optimization, assurance, IT and networks. Cisco has worked with JEC developers to analyze the strategic goals and objectives to direct work streams and to help define JEC ambitions, service strategy and desired business models. A centralized operational management of the city services will be utilized through a smart data center network infrastructure at lowered operational costs. JEC's network will facilitate data, voice, video, mobile communications and automated technologies across commercial buildings, residential buildings and industrial zone.
Cisco's Smart+Connected Communities help to transform physical communities into connected communities in order to realize sustainable economic growth, deliver environmental sustainability through resource management and operational efficiencies, and enhance the quality of life.
Cisco works with its customers from idea to execution and use vertical solutions built on the network as an open integrated platform, along with a broad ecosystem of partners and innovative business models, to change the way communities are designed, built, managed and renewed. Constituents of Smart+Connected Communities have access to information and services that enrich their lives, with technology solutions for their home, schools, transportation and more.
Jazan Economic City will be one of the most distinguished centers on the coastline of the Red Sea as well as a focal point for national and international businesses facilitating better business and trade dealings. Two-thirds of the economic city has been dedicated to the growth of a superior industrial sector.
