AS part of the annual World Environment Day celebrations on June 5, a well known Indian expatriate organization Thanima (Eastern Province chapter), is hosting an event on June 3 honoring all those who grow vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants in the limited space of their homes. Thanima's chief coordinator, K.M Rasheed, told Saudi Gazette that this initiative aims to bring about awareness of our environment as well as the importance of plants for healthy living. “Many expatriates in the Eastern Province are trying to plant more trees and plants in the very little space they have in their homes and Thanima would like to encourage such people,” he remarked. “By honoring people, we hope to inspire other expatriates to plant something in their homes as well.” He added: “We came to know about many expatriate women who are growing vegetables such as tomatoes, chilies, eggplants, gourds and other leafy vegetables within their home, and spending their leisure time more productively in their balconies, rooftops and backyards. This should be appreciated.” Apart from the event on Friday, there will be a seminar and photo exhibition in order to raise more environmental awareness. Those who are interested to attend this program can contact representatives of Thanima at 0508010613 and 0508351415.
