DUBAI: Passenger traffic at Dubai International airport rose by 13.2 percent last month, Dubai Airports said on Thursday, but travel on Middle East routes dipped as regional unrest discouraged tourists. The world's fourth busiest airport recorded passenger traffic of 4.23 million in April, compared with 3.74 million a year earlier, Dubai Airports said in a statement. However, traffic on routes in the Middle East saw a drop of 2.4 percent, as traffic continues to be affected by political unrest. Dubai, known for opulent hotels and gleaming shopping malls, has so far escaped the regional unrest. “We have surpassed the four million passenger mark three out of the first four months of the year and that trend is set to continue,” said Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports.
