Libya, The Settlement of Crises
Al-Riyadh Editorial
Published in Alriyadh on 05 - 06 - 2014

Libya is one of tension rings in the Arab region as those who had participated in overthrowing Gaddafi's dictatorship have put themselves in the place of the new alternative. However, the split cases in a troubled community overwhelmed by tribalism where Islamic extremist forces are spread together with the disability of agreeing about national salvation government have made Libya to a yard for open conflicts. Libya's problem is consisted of that it is a country of massive area and poor population together with having a troubled neighbor country such as Mali and borders open before neighboring Arab countries. The concern associated with this condition is reaching the stage of disorder during which arms and extremist categories which beliefs are similar to the beliefs of members in those countries may enter Libya. This situation has led Libya towards becoming a dangerous security problem not only for itself but for all of its neighboring countries as well.
The retired Major - General Khalifa Haftar does not really have a good military reputation. However, he had been the most dangerous opponent of Gaddafi during the stage of Gaddafi's governance. Gaddafi has involved Haftar in invading Chad which had resulted in defeating and arresting him due to that Gaddafi had denied having any idea about such battles in addition to his fear of that Haftar's victory may lead him towards making a coop against him while in being in power. Regardless of such ambiguous career; Hafatar has managed, through his call to Libya's dignity for getting rid of the religious militias and the weak governments, to establish a new alliance with armed militias and groups, including members of the Libyan army who are under his direct leadership, for the sake of returning peace to his country. In spite of that he is receiving such support until this moment; there are doubts about his being the United States new man. However, There are some people who are seeking with him to save the country regardless of the identity he is holding or the trend outlined by him.
Haftar has called Egypt for securing its borders through striking the military groups which are settling in it, especially the Islamic groups and Muslim Brothers in particular as they are classified as terrorists who start from the Libyan borders for fighting the Egyptian state. However, such call is inapplicable due to that Egypt does not want, while being in its present conditions, to start battles in a country split by the conflicts and foreign interventions, in addition it does not want to create a new trend which forces its enemies to fight it in the Libyan lands. Egypt has no interest in responding to Haftar's call even if he represents a character of salvation as long as the vision is not clear yet. It is impossible for Egypt to antagonize the Libyan people for the interest of any category, army or militia who are fighting each other in that land.
Such issue has led, as well, Arab West Countries which are close to the Libyan borders to keep being neutral in spite of the damages occurred to them because of the condition of disorder, especially Tunisia which is passing through the stage of regaining its security and stability & Algeria which considers that a military movement towards it may turn the table on it while The same issue applies to Sudan. However, Chad is still away of this condition to some extent in spite of that it is watching it closely while Mali is suffering a situation similar to the Libyan in regard to the internal wars, splits and security disorder but the common factor between them is that some extremist members from both of them may meet together and establish a new alliance that shall put the two countries before many crises.
