Results of various studies have shown the rise of Asthma disease percentage between the Saudi citizens as it ranges between 18 & 24%. This result has been revealed by Dr. Hamdan Humaid Al-Jahdali, Member of Royal Society for Physicians & Surgeons, Vice Chairman of Medicine Department, Head of Pulmonology Diseases Section & Medical Director of Sleep Disorders in King Abdul Aziz Medical City in Riyadh. Dr. Hamdan referred the reason behind the variation of results to that the studies are made through personal efforts in various cities. However, he declared that Ministry of Health is willing to conduct a comprehensive national survey about the extent of pulmonology allergy prevalence (Asthma) through applying agreed international survey methods. During his participation in Boehringer Ingelheim Third Regional Forum for Respiratory Diseases Experts titled: "Today's Treatment with an Eye on the Future" which has been held in Istanbul; Dr. Hamdan indicated that the international statistics state that 250 thousand patients have died due to Asthma and emphasized on the social and economic burden resulted from this disease. He added that the number of people suffering from Asthma around the world is about 300 million patients and that this number is possible to rise up to 400 million patients by 2025 as per the statistics of World Health Organization of 2010.
