Egypt after the revolution & the outcome of the elections
Al-Riyadh's Editorial

The results of the Egyptian election represented the biggest event at the end of last week. Such elections gained, for sure, the world's appreciation, regardless of who is going to reach the presidency chair. These elections turned the expectations upside down due to Lieutenant General Ahmad Shafeek's arrival to the level of top two as he is classified among the pillars of the old regime. This surprise assured that the roots of the old regime are still existed and that the Egyptian people's election kept hiding the results until the last moment, though they have chosen freely the person they liked.
Centers of the "Muslim Brothers" in many provinces elected characters who do not have common ground with them. On the contrary, the Muslim Brothers gained some popular votes that were not among their calculations. The remaining challenge is what is coming after these rounds. Whether victory is achieved by Muhammad Morsi, on behalf of the Muslim Brothers or Ahmad Shafeek; It shall be clear that the internal issues are going to impose their security and economic pressure. Thoughts are concerned about these two factors during the coming transitional period, while the relationships with the Arabs and the World shall come after that, due to their impact on the whole Egyptian path.
The Arabian condition in Arab Spring countries is still passing through a foggy stage. This means that it hasn't passed the first obstacles yet. This represents the nature of any stage in which the change is fundamental, especially in regard to government which used to monopolize all powers of Planning of policies and imposing of decisions. The said monopoly led to disabling the national projects and creation of beneficiary categories that overthrew themselves through their behaviors that contradicted the popular and national demands. The other countries, which have high interests in all levels, are awaiting the results and the manner by which the relationships are going to be drawn, as per this new reality.
Internationally, there are super powers which have direct and sensitive interests, especially the United States of America which is watching the course of events and the extent of Egypt's commitment by the peace agreement with Israel which represents a basic subject for the coming Egyptian government. The stable condition shall, for sure, push the international investments towards being a basic supporter for the Egyptian economy, in addition to the return of tourism industry which has a similar effect on the whole Egyptian economy.
The discussion about the revolution and its consequences shall, no doubt, be going on for a long time. Those who say that the revolution has been kidnapped from its people interpret the case by stating that those who started it did their effort spontaneously without leaderships or previous experiences that can provide them the sustainability. However, they are still the source of the event and the discussion in the contemporary history of Egypt. Implicitly, the disagreements about the shape and framework of the coming state widened the circle of competitions but the people were conscious and not emotional in regard to the candidate they want as they could know that the political maneuvers and unachieved promises cannot deceive the citizen who chose his representative that can be abandoned in the coming elections if he didn't fulfill his promises.
This experience is the first of its kind on the Arab level. The size and, accordingly, and impact of Egypt shall be, no doubt, a big one.
At the beginning: Egypt witnessed the monarchy, its parties and its corruption. Such system was followed by a military regime which witnessed three army officers as leaders who did not move one step towards establishing civil governance and a political, & economic reforms. The revolution came at the end to change the whole features of the past. The national responsibility which is waiting those who are going to occupy the senior high posts & the minor ones is that the state's philosophy should not be established on a narrow-minded partisan perspective that makes friendships and hostilities as per its ideology and concepts. The president, Prime Minister & other high officials should be citizens devoted for the whole of Egyptian people due to that if the disputes happen, they shall drag the crises with them and the loser shall, then, be the homeland and his leaders through a return to the repetition and accumulation of mistakes.
