Fearless generation!
Published in Alriyadh on 03 - 02 - 2011

Our fathers considered us dependent who did not plant, gather wood or build our mud houses; since, as they thought, schools spoiled us and taught us the extravagant cleanness. We the 60th century generation looked the same way to our children and considered them fast-food generations: generations of disregard and unlimited luxury who are refusing the serious work and starting the performance and equivalence between work hours and productivity. Those characteristics proved by haircuts, chains and rings of male boys; or tight pants and loose morals of girls. The generation of Facebook and football who are not neither armed with culture, awareness nor discarding dependence and duty negligence.
Those judgments are abusive and extravagant if we thought that the ancestors are better than us not only in religious matters, traditions or championships but also in mental excellence. This is not true if we exclude the Prophets. We see that this look is apparent in developed countries where we find youth continue the innovations of the ancestors. Comparing generations, the recent ones are more distinguished.
In Arab countries, these differences are generalized; however, what happened in Tunis and Egypt is a quick response to change in order to achieve the requests of another generation who is different mentally by imposing new rule against abuse, patterns or shepherd-sheep relationship. These events proved our mistake, because the young men who formed human shields to protect country properties, chase thieves, donate blood and organize traffics in a weird absence of police forces are not negative young men judged severely.
With the Great Flood in Jeddah, many young men and women did heroic deeds helping people trapped by torrents. It's an instant response without orders or requests from social or governmental authorities. This response turns us to trust our youth who did the national and humane duties. The same thing happened in Al Riyadh and other cities and villages.
When we free youth of negative complex, understand their era and interact with the world via modern technology, we will be aware of the time gap made by technology between our families. We must confess our ignorance when keeping up with computers and cell phones. It's not logical to judge ourselves and forget how factories are operated, labs samples are examined and how educational, industrial and administrative management are dealt with. In order to comprehend the values of youth who are not negative, dependant or empty-minded we need to know how are they qualified to occupy these positions?
Moving Arabic streets to revolution is an echo of motives misunderstanding. This is not the fault of generation, but our solitude which we imposed on ourselves by leaving them alone. The most beautiful picture is viewed by presidents and world public opinion which were shaken by a generation who broke the authorities' stubbornness and refused the submission or fear of imprisonment: steps which really changed the ideas and world characteristics.
