Abdul Aziz Mohammed Al-Huwairini, head of the newly-formed Presidency of State Security, is a low profile, anti-terror official, who had led the General Directorate of Investigation, known as Al-Mabahith, for more than 11 years. He is a security veteran of 40 years in the Ministry of Interior, known for his numerous successes in the fight against terrorism. He is a man who believes that deeds speak louder than words and that achievements speak for themselves. Al-Huwairini worked hard to bridge the security gaps, confronted the most dangerous terrorists who targeted state security and innocent people. He was one of the most trusted officers of the late Minister of Interior Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz. The ace security man has now been entrusted the task of continuing his anti-terror mission, and will confront extremist ideologies and deviant religious movements. He will also seek to combat corruption at all levels. His dedication to root out terrorism has made him many enemies among terrorist groups. He has escaped two attempts on his life when he was at the helm of the General Directorate of Investigation. One of them was in early 2003, when he was traveling in a car with his brother and it came under heavy fire. His brother was seriously injured in the attack, while he escaped with minor injuries to his the hand and face. The new royal order decrees that Al-Huwairini will remain in his post as Director of the General Directorate of Investigation along with his new post.
