Security authorities have arrested a young man who was seen in a video assaulting an elderly man and a woman in a public street in Riyadh. Informed sources said an investigation into the case had been initiated. The accused claimed that the woman was his wife and the elderly man one of her relatives. He said he was trying to get them back inside the vehicle which he had been driving and had met with a traffic accident. He was trying to calm them down, he said. An official source at the Ministry of Labor and Social Development said if it was confirmed that the woman was indeed his wife he would face charges of domestic violence. He would also be booked for assaulting an elderly person. Earlier, a distressing video clip had shown the young man assaulting the elderly man and the woman with a stick. According to unconfirmed information, the incident occurred in the Mansoura neighborhood in Riyadh. The social media had circulated the video of the attack yesterday. The footage began with an image of a parked van. Soon after, a young man was seen assaulting the elderly man and the woman with his bare hands and a crutch.
