The National Grid SA has signed a contract with General Electric (GE) for the supply of four new electricity substations on a turnkey basis, and to upgrade four existing units in the Southern Province to meet the growing need for electricity in Saudi Arabia. The new substations, with a total capacity of 1,933MVA, will provide power for up to 25,000 homes and industries in the Southern Province, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. It will also provide reliable and efficient sources of electricity to support the Kingdom's economic development process at all levels. GE will carry out all engineering, design and civil works for the project, and provide gas insulated switchgears, power transformers and automation solutions. The four substations will be upgraded by using innovative technology solutions developed by GE.
