The third international conference on Alzheimer's disease, which was to open here this evening, under the patronage of Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, the honorary president of the Saudi Alzheimer's Disease Association (SADA), is set to discuss various issues related to therapeutic interventions available to patients with Alzheimer's disease. The three-day conference will discuss the social and legal support required for caregivers, the behavioral disorders associated with the disease and how to deal with them, the genetic and environmental risk factors associated with it, and the ethical aspects of working with Alzheimer's patients and their families. Speakers and experts from inside and outside the Kingdom are participating in the conference. Several cooperation agreements are to be signed at the end of the conference, as part of the strategic partnership program adopted by the Association to serve patients in sectors related to care, training and rehabilitation. A scientific program will be organized on the fringes of the conference, besides a series of workshops. The conference will also discuss recommendations and resolutions made by previous conferences and what had been achieved so far from these resolutions. On the opening day, the conference will review the various features of Alzheimer's disease, its causes, the genetic factors leading to it, the relationship between nutrition and the disease, as well as the impact of physical and mental activity on the disease. Two workshops on dementia and the neuropsychological evaluation of Alzheimer's will be held on the first day. On the second day, the conference is scheduled to discuss methods of diagnosis, treatment, psychological and behavioral symptoms, and the correct care practices. Two workshops will also be held, titled "Evaluation of the neuropsychology of Alzheimer's disease" and "Alzheimer's facts, future, and fears: support families to cope with dementia and eventual care ". On the third day, four working papers on the behavioral problems facing Alzheimer's patients and methods of evaluation, therapeutic interventions available, the impact of behavioral problems on the caregiver, and the legislative issues related to the disease and the patient will be presented. The Riyadh-based Saudi Alzheimer's Disease Association is one of the most important specialized scientific centers at the local and regional levels. It has been awarded the Chaillot Prize by the European Commission in recognition of its efforts to develop a strategic partnership program to confront the disease.
