Minister of Culture and Information: We Aim to Enhance GCC Identity, Combating Terrorism

Dr. Adel bin Zaid Al-Toraifi, Minister of Culture and Information, stressed that among the highest responsibilities of the Culture Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is to build Islamic conscious culture and stand firmly against terrorism and violence.
In his speech during the opening session of the 21st meeting of the GCC Ministers of Culture in Doha yesterday, Dr. Al-Toraifi said that "the culture is a main configuration for our GCC peoples and we are also concerned to build human which is the main goal."
"Since more than thirty years in 1981, the GCC General Secretariat was established. This ancient institution aims to achieve the goals the GCC leaders in order to serve the citizens of these countries because they believe that the GCC states are one entity," Al-Toraifi added.
"We gather today as the GCC ministers of culture to complete what have been started by the GCC leaders. I thank the GCC undersecretaries and members of the Cultural Committee for their great efforts," he added.
The minister of culture and information said that 'among the highest cultural responsibilities is to build the Islamic conscious culture and stand firmly against terrorism and violence.'
'The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has directed to work for achieving security and stability in the world in addition to spreading principles of peace and justice along with commitment of dialogue and resolving differences through peaceful means and rejecting the use of force and violence or any actions that threaten international peace and security,' he added.
'With emergence of phenomenon of extremism and terrorism as a global scourge which have no religion, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia works to fight against extremism and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, whatever its sources, in addition to cooperation with the brotherly and friendly countries and international organizations in the fight against this abominable scourge,' Al-Toraifi said.
Dr. Al-Toraifi thanked Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, government and people for the warm hospitality.
The minister of culture and information has invited his GCC counterparts for their next meeting in Riyadh.
