With regard to the post "Why don't we teach our children ethics, morals, values and respect?" (Apr. 11), the job of teaching kids "ethics, morals, values and respect from the time they are young" is what parents and family are supposed to do - not schools. It behooves us all to look to ourselves first and ensure that we are doing our jobs as responsible individuals who act ethically and respectfully, thus exhibiting morals and values worth learning and emulating. Susan Westfall, Online response The fault is our education system. We have to teach our children ethics, morals, values and respect from the time they are young. Abu Ahmed, Online response It happens many times that students who score the highest marks openly admit that they have received support from their parents at home. Teachers also deserve some of the credit. I consider teachers to be more like guides. All of us have a role to play in order to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Parents should develop a home library for students. Wasting time on video games and PlayStation during holidays is not desirable. Reading books is a very healthy pastime for students. Irfan Ahmed, Online response I totally disagree with the comment that the problems of cities are because of migrants coming from other areas. It is not a matter of people coming from rural areas or from other cities. Islamabad is full of villagers. It is a totally mixed population and yet it is a peaceful area. Australia, Canada, New Zealand and many other countries, even the UAE, are full of people of different nationalities. So it is all about education and teaching the younger generation about the values that are taught to us by Islam. Sam, Online response
