Citizens buy fireworks from street vendors in Jeddah, Sunday. The Directorate General of Civil Defense, in a warning, reiterated that fireworks are illegal as they pose a high fire risk and are the leading cause of injuries during the Eid holidays. Despite warnings every year, thousands of people, mostly children and teenagers, are treated at hospital emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries. This year, in coordination with police, local municipalities and mayoralties, inspectors intensified efforts and seized larges amount of fireworks all over the Kingdom. Lt. Col. Abdullah Al-Harthi, Spokesman of the Directorate General of Civil Defense, said fireworks can cause horrific injuries and burns, damage to the eyes and easily cause fires in the dry desert climate. He asked parents to watch their children and not allow them to use fireworks. — SPA
