German industrial production plunged at a record rate in March as the coronavirus crisis hit Europe's biggest economy, dpa reported. Monthly output contracted by a larger-than-forecast 9.2 per cent in March, to post the biggest fall for the country since records began in 1991, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported on Thursday. Analysts had expected a 7.4-per-cent slump in March production. It edged higher by 0.3 per cent in February. Year-on year-production contracted by 11.6 per cent in March, Destatis said. Analysts had forecast an 8.9-per-cent drop in March compared with the same month last year.
