Shares tumbled Monday in the few Asian markets open, AP reported. Many regional markets, including China's were closed in Asia for Lunar New Year holidays. Australia was closed for Australia Day. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index sank 1.8% to 23,389.49. India's Sensex lost 0.4% to 41,466.45, while Indonesia's share benchmark was 0.8% lower. Benchmark U.S. crude gave up $1.25 to $52.94 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It lost $1.40 to $54.19 per barrel on Friday. Brent crude, the international standard, declined $1.35 to $58.54 per barrel. It shed $1.39 to $59.89 per barrel on Friday. In currency trading, the dollar weakened to 109.07 Japanese yen from 109.28 yen. The euro strengthened to $1.1029 from $1.1025.
