MAKKAH — The Saudi Patient Safety Center (SPSC), in cooperation with the Health Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GHC), has launched the activities of the first 3-day video training course entitled "Patient Safety Specialist (Officer)" (PSO), with the participation of 22 health professionals from the ministries of health in the GCC countries, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said. The Director General of the SPSC, Dr. Abdulelah Al-Hausawi, said: "The program targets all healthcare providers and provides the participants with the main principles and competencies associated with the patient safety system. It will also provide the history of the patient safety movement and a description of the sciences and specialties used in patient safety. Also included will be the current best practices and strategies to overcome the obstacles in safe care." Expressing the center's pride at the constructive cooperation with the Health Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, and the fruitful results of organizing this first program in the field of patient safety specialist, the official hoped that the cooperation will continue to develop a strategic plan for quality and patient safety. Dr. Al-Hausawi stressed that strengthening health safety should be a priority, especially now as the world is facing the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The healtsafety, he said, necessitates focusing on the program, which is an integral part of patient safety.
