A woman allegedly murdered her step daughter in Mahasen District on Monday. Eastern Province Police spokesman Col. Ziyad Al-Raqiti said the woman slaughtered the six-year-old girl and dumped her body on a street. "Investigations revealed that the victim was in the school on the morning of the incident when her step mother came by and picked her up," said Al-Raqiti. He said passersby saw the victim in her school uniform with a woman they assumed to be her mother or sister. "A witness saw the woman take the victim to an empty land behind her house. He saw the woman pull out a kitchen knife and slaughter the victim. She then dumped the body of the victim on the ground and walked back into the house calmly," said Al-Raqiti. He also said the witness then reported the incident to the police. "The police arrested the woman and seized the weapon. The police interrogated the woman but she showed no sign of remorse. The father of the victim is married to three women and they all live in the same house," said Al-Raqiti. "The woman is a Saudi and in her 30s. The girl's body was taken to a morgue and the case has been forwarded to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution," said Al-Raqiti. A source said a hashtag trended on social media in response to the horrid murder. "Social media users expressed their remorse and anger at the murder. They demanded that the woman be sentenced to death immediately for murdering an innocent soul," said the source. Family consultant and head of Women Family Development Center Hajar Al-Ateen said the murder case is an abhorrent one. "The victim in this case is an innocent child who was murdered by someone close to her. A step mother should be in place of the mother and love and take care of the child as if it were her own. Abusing children is enough of a horrid crime. To slaughter a child is monstrous," said Al-Ateen.
