Awwal 12, 1432 H/Feb 15, 2011, SPA -- A Finnish soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday. The soldier and his unit were on their way to a shooting range near the town of Aybak when the blast occurred, dpa cited the defence forces as saying. He was the second Finnish soldier to die in Afghanistan since 2007. President Tarja Halonen, who visited Afghanistan in January, as well as the ministers for defence and foreign affairs, expressed regret at the news. Finland has contributed 180 soldiers to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
