Three Polish nationals died and four were seriously injured in a bus accident near the northern French city of Dunkirk early Wednesday morning, Poland's foreign affairs ministry confirmed. The bus carrying 47 passengers and two drivers was destined for Dublin, Ireland, with a stop in London. Over 30 passengers were treated in hospitals in France and nearby Belgium, DPA reported. A spokesman for the bus operator, the Polonia Transport company, told Poland's TVN24 channel the vehicle in question was just a year old and technically sound. The Polish foreign ministry said the driver had survived the accident and was being questioned by French justice authorities on Wednesday. The bus crashed onto its side before dawn Wednesday morning near a parking lot some 12 kilometres from Dunkirk. The cause of the accident was not immediately clear, but reports said poor weather conditions may have been a factor.
