Lufthansa said Tuesday it would be unable to resume scheduled flights into Beirut, as it had announced earlier in the day, because it was unable to obtain landing slots according to dpa. The regular flights would not resume until next month, a company spokesman said. Earlier Tuesday, Lufthansa had said it expected to make its first Beirut landing on Wednesday. The airline said that anyone who had booked flights to Beirut after the initial announcement should contact Lufthansa for advice. The company officially suspended its service to Beirut on July 14 after the airport was bombed by Israeli jets. Lufthansa normally flies from Frankfurt to Beirut and back five times a week. The airline has had to step up its flights to the Jordanian capital Amman, the Syrian capital Damascus and the Cypriot city of Larnaca to cope with demand. Travellers then have to travel to Lebanon by land or sea.
