AlQa'dah 19, 1436, September 03, 2015, SPA -- The Chinese military will cut 300,000 troops, President Xi Jinping said Thursday during a speech in commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, dpa reported. It marks the fourth time that China will reduce its troop levels since the 1980s, Xinhua reported. In 1985, the country announced it would cut 1 million troops to focus on economic development, the report said. The reductions were instituted over the next several years. In 1997, China lowered troop levels by another 500,000, bringing the total size of the People's Liberation Army to 2.5 million. Between 2003 and 2005, China cut another 200,000 military personnel, leaving some 2.3 million troops in place, Xinhua said.
