The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stressed the importance of the role played by the international fact-finding panel on Syria in monitoring violations committed by the Syrian authorities against the Syrian people.
In a statement read by the Kingdom's permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva during the interactive dialogue of the Human Rights Council with the international fact-finding panel on Syria, Dr. Abdulwahab Attar demanded that the world unites ranks to save what can be saved in Syria.
Dr. Attar said that the head of the international panel provided important information showing the extent of deteriorating situation of human rights in Syria which pointed to crimes against humanity committed by the Syrian regime forces against the Syrian people, including killing, torture, indecent assault, forced disappearance and other inhumane acts.
"The humanitarian and tragic situation against the Syrian people unfortunately is exacerbating. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia confirms again and again that the international inaction to stop the policy of killing and systematic oppression committed by the Syrian regime has led to disastrous situation and tragic developments," Attar said.
He pointed out that the international community is still reluctant to meet the essential needs of the Syrian people in order to enable them defend themselves.
"Receiving support by some international parties, the Syrian regime insists on imposing a military solution to the conflict, leading to bloodshed of innocents, destruction of the country and usage of destructive weapons in the civilian areas", he said, citing the launch of Scud missiles and heavy artillery on civilian areas in battered country.
The Kingdom's permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva stressed that the situation in Syria has reached a tragic limit which necessitates the cooperation of all parties for the help of the Syrian people and work for the transition of power in Damascus with all possible means.
