Tillakaratne to take fixing allegations to ICC
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 04 - 05 - 2011

COLOMBO: Former Sri Lanka Test captain Hashan Tillakaratne said Tuesday he will tell the International Cricket Council that matches were fixed during his career.
Tillakaratne, a politician in Sri Lanka's opposition, said he will reveal the names of those involved in fixing matches “at the appropriate time.”
Tillakaratne told a television program earlier this month that match fixing has been rampant in Sri Lanka since 1992, then on Tuesday made a statement reaffirming his allegations to the Western Provincial Council, where he is elected to office. “I made a statement to the provincial council, I said that I still maintain my stand on the (match fixing) allegations,” said Tillakaratne, who declined to reveal the names of those involved following legal advise. “After I came out with these allegations I have been getting a lot of nuisance calls, death threats, but definitely I will expose all those who are involved in a time to come,” he said.
Within hours of his comments Tuesday, he was questioned by police for an hour.
Ganguly back in IPL
Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, who found no takers at this year's Indian Premier League player auction, has been signed up by struggling franchise Pune Warriors. Ganguly, who played for his home team Kolkata in the first three editions of the tournament, replaces the injured Ashish Nehra ahead of Pune's game against table-toppers Mumbai Indians Wednesday.
Flower renews contract
Andy Flower has signed a new contract to remain in the role of England team director, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed Tuesday. The former Zimbabwe captain, 43, took over from Peter Moores in January 2009 and has since guided the team to two Ashes series wins and World T20 glory.
Yusuf shines in Kolkata's win
India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan clobbered a quick-fire 47 not out off 26 deliveries as Kolkata Knight Riders scored a comfortable 20-run victory over Deccan Chargers to move up in the IPL points table Tuesday.
The No. 4 batsman produced some lusty hits and was involved in a crucial 80-run stand with Manoj Tiwary (33) that helped Kolkata score a challenging 169-4 on a sporting Rajiv Gandhi Stadium pitch.
The home side's reply ended at 149-6, with opener Shikhar Dhawan top-scoring with 54.
The win took Kolkata to joint first position with 12 points from nine games. Mumbai Indians also has 12 points but in only eight games. The Kumar Sangakkara-led Deccan Chargers remained in seventh place with six points from nine games.
