The father of Majed Basaeed, the 14-year-old who died after a school trip to a swimming pool in April, is pursuing legal action to identify the culpable parties despite the case file being passed from one authority to another before finally ended before the General Court. Mudrik Basaeed said, however, that the case will not be dropped. “I'm determined to find out who is responsible, and they must be punished accordingly,” Basaeed said. “I will not waive my legal rights.” The case had been passed between the Civil Defense, the police, and the Commission for Investigation and Prosecution before going back to the Civil Defense again. Majed Basaeed was one of 41 pupils from Al-Falah School on a day trip to King Fahd Coastal City when he entered a swimming pool unattended and ended up in intensive care in a coma. He died a few days later. Doctors said that 45 minutes elapsed between Majed's removal from the pool and his arrival at hospital. Witnesses at the time said there was a lack of supervising teachers and investigations also focused on the lifeguard at the site who was believed to be an electrician by profession.
