Hurricanes beat Panthers

Tom Kostopoulos and Jussi Jokinen scored first-period goals off turnovers in Florida's end and Cam Ward made 25 saves to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Panthers 7-2 Friday night.
Tuomo Ruutu also scored in the opening period for the Hurricanes, who dominated early and then cruised to a second straight victory against a Southeast Division rival. Carolina beat Tampa Bay in a shootout for its first win Tuesday night.
Ray Whitney, Matt Cullen, Rod Brind'Amour and Jay Harrison also scored for Carolina. Shawn Matthias and Michael Frolik scored for Florida.
Stars 5, Flames 2: At Calgary, Alex Auld made 21 saves in his Dallas debut to help the Stars win for the first time this season. Mike Ribeiro, Brian Sutherby, Tom Wandell, Loui Eriksson and Brad Richards scored for Dallas, coming off season-opening shootout losses to Nashville and Edmonton with Marty Turco in goal. Dion Phaneuf and Rene Bourque had power-play goals for Calgary in the Flames' first loss in five games this season.
Oilers coach fined
The NHL slapped Edmonton Oilers head coach Pat Quinn with a $10,000 fine for comments he made after Thursday's victory over the Calgary Flames.
Quinn lashed out at Calgary forward Jarome Iginla for sending Edmonton defenceman Sheldon Souray to the ice in Edmonton's 4-3 win. Souray suffered a concussion and Iginla was given a minor penalty for tripping. Quinn said dirty plays often go unpunished and the league is making it difficult for the players to follow their on
