Police have discovered a huge hoard of fireworks at an apartment in the historic area of Al-Balad, with officials describing the find as a “grave danger to buildings in the vicinity”. Three Yemenis were arrested believed to be responsible for running the operation which involved two apartments, one used for accommodation, the other for storage. According to police officials the trio divided their roles between salesmen and warehouse manager, with most of their clients residing in the area. The site was raided and closed down after police set up a sting in which they posed as customers, and officials removed dozens of boxes containing firecrackers and fireworks, some described as powerful enough to “blow off a hand or foot”.
