International schools in the Kingdom will be obliged to teach Islamic education and history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as part of their curricula as of the next academic year. The Undersecretary for Educational Development at the Ministry of Education, Naif Al-Roumi, speaking at a workshop on human rights in public education, said that the move had been studied and finalized, and would be formally announced in the near future. Al-Roumi added that the principles of human rights would be taught in first, fourth and seventh grades in all schools, but did not specify when.
