A high percentage of Saudi girls would like to work in the police force, according to Rowaidah Torgon, Chief of the Female Section at the Criminal Evidence Department in Jeddah. Torgon said that women are “very observant and perceptive and can make good investigators.” Rowaidah said her department received female citizens and issues them with clean criminal record certificates used to obtain visas, scholarships abroad, security jobs, changes in identification card information, and permission for opening international schools and clubs. Rowaidah also spoke of the progress the department had made since its opening. “Visitors are now more comfortable with the department following the training of staff. The department is also computerized and we now use fingerprint machines instead of the old ink method,” Rowaidah said. She said that staff at the department were keen to take technical and administrative courses and also training at the Prince Naif University for Security Sciences in Riyadh.
