I am writing with regard to the article “Male domination and women's ‘defeatist' attitude in civic polls” (Aug. 26). The author's noble intentions of seeing equality of sexes seems to be colored by his bias against women. Saudi society has to evolve and the way is long and arduous. Expecting society to accept women on an equal basis with men and that too in elections, where the men themselves are struggling to compete, is being over-optimistic. Men are more oriented to performing in the outside world and it is natural for them to succeed there, but society should give equal importance to the role that women play in the home.
