I am writing with regard to the article "With trees dying out, Jeddah's parks are drying up" (July 4). The problem is twofold: corruption and the lack of interest by the municipality is one reason, while the careless attitude of the people who use these parks is the other. Despite cleanliness being so highly emphasized by Islam, some Muslims do not seem to be aware of the need to maintain a clean and safe environment. I went to a park in Dubai and was amazed at its maintenance and cleanliness. On the other hand, if you go to any public park in Jeddah, you really have to search for a clean place to sit. The municipality and general public are jointly responsible. Azhar, Online response
