With regard to the article "Older workers add value to any organization" (June 28), some organizations seem to think that recently educated younger workers can bring positive changes to the workplace. For that reason, they decide to remove the older and more experienced staff. However, once they realize the true reality, it will be too late to get back those older staff members. Shameem Alam, Online response Many trade unions in the UK are supporting older workers in the workplace. This takes many forms and may include mentoring younger colleagues. Quite often union representatives will offer colleagues a mid-life development review where they can plan for their future so that they can continue to work in a way that is supported by their union and employer and takes into consideration the person's external family and community commitments.
