I am writing with regard to the post "Dashboard cameras in cars must be made mandatory in Saudi Arabia" (May 25). In Western countries there are currently debates underway about making it mandatory for cars and other vehicles to be fitted with a 'black box'. Just like the black box on an airplane, these devices can constantly register and record the driving speed, turns or abrupt moves the car makes, the acceleration and braking, and how many times each of these takes place. The information in these "black boxes" is renewed every five minutes, so in case of a collision or crash, it is easy to determine the behavior of the driver, and whether or not he was guilty of reckless driving which caused the accident. Traffic safety and the safety of the public must come first. Barthol, Online response The use of dashboard cameras with help to discipline reckless drivers. Such cameras will allow the public to report those guilty of causing accidents to the relevant authorities. Every day while driving, I witness violators turning left from the right side of the road and others driving slowly while talking on a mobile phone. There are also those who speed recklessly, taxis which stop suddenly, cars making a u-turn from the wrong side of the street and drivers who reverse on main highways. Expat Pinoy, Online response
