I didn't know what to think when I heard the news about Egypt's death sentences against former elected officials. However, it seems clear that we are living in an era of hypocrisy and double standards. We in the West have to stop this ugly and rotten form of hypocrisy. It is not helping to safeguard the safety and security of our global village. In any court of law we would be held accountable and liable for aiding and abetting criminals as our action directly helps the cause of extremists and fanatics around the world.
We spend billions and waste an incredible amount of resources in the war on terror when we already know the cause of this illness. We even send our men and women in uniform to sacrifice themselves in these wars when we know why things are happening the way they are.
It seems as if we are like actors in a play. While we know, we pretend not to know. We know very well what is driving youth to join the ranks of madness, but we act stupid and pretend not to know.
It is as if honesty, especially in politics, has become something of the past. As a result, craziness is gaining momentum. A few crazy men cause death and destruction, and we in return also do the same with our drones and the cycle continues.
We should - for the sake of preserving human dignity - act with some honesty and put an end to our ugly form of double standards. We should live by the values we claim to believe in.
