With regard to the article “Road surveillance cameras back to work” (Apr. 28), can these cameras be utilized for smooth traffic control? When a huge traffic jam is noticed, can the operators of the cameras use them to control traffic lights or guide police officers to the spot? Surveillance cameras may be new in Saudi Arabia but have already be in use for decades in cities in other countries. A modern traffic control system is much more needed than surveillance alone. It can also be used to control traffic lights for ambulances, Civil Defense and other assistance vehicles which are attempting to save lives. Barthol, Online response
