I am writing with regard to the article "Why are there so many reckless drivers in Saudi Arabia?" (Mar. 27). With respect to the author, I do not think that the driving schools in the Kingdom can be blamed. The main problem is the method of obtaining a driver's license in Saudi Arabia, as this system does not depend upon independent and government appointed driving examiners. Obtaining a license does not require a driver to take a full one-hour exam with an examiner sitting next to him in a car. In such an exam, missing two or more important precautions or actions, driving too fast or to slow, would mean failing. We need to inject more value into driver's license exams in the Kingdom.
