I am writing with regard to the article “Illegal car washers ignore bans, flood Jeddah streets” (Feb. 3). What I don't understand is why the owners of cars with a good paint job will allow street washers to clean their cars. Obviously, they wash several cars with the same water which is dirty and full of mud and sand particles. These particles work like sandpaper, scratching and sandpapering the paint on the vehicle. If you have your car washed regularly by street washers, rather than in a good car wash, you will see the difference within a year. Penny wise, pound foolish. Barthol, Online response
