With reference to the article "Why the hysteria about women?" (Dec. 22) women should be more integrated in society, especially in Saudi society. I think one day every human being will flourish in Saudi in sha Allah. This kind of writing gives us a lot of encouragement. Rahman, Online response You deserve all kudos for coming up with such a nice article. We need to remind ourselves again and again that woman is the pivot of a society just like man. We can never move our vehicle with two or three wheels. In the same way a society can never flourish by leaving its women behind. Firdaus Bano, Online response I may ask the writer: What achievements a woman will achieve if she simply uncovers her face? If there is none, then don't be a reason for fitna by uncovering the face. Every woman needs education and empowerment; that's the real development. Syed, Online response I am not at all impressed with the views of the writer. I want to ask her: Show me any nation or community in the world that flourishes by the openness of women. What is the status of women in those societies where they are open and free? I will wait for her reply. Gowhar Rasool The Haia chief cannot hold his position if he is not knowledgeable on what is permitted and what is prohibited. I have earlier quoted a Hadith which permits women to uncover their faces. If, for the sake of argument, the Haia chief has done anything wrong it is for the authorities to take action against him. It is not for us to be debating a issue which does not concern us. Ismaeel Marikar, Online response The views of the writer are not connected to Islam. There is no point in argument. What was the sheikh trying to achieve by presenting the face of his wife on TV? If that can be allowed, why not allow fashion shows also where women display their bodies? After all their bodies belong to them. You are trying to suggest that raising children is a below dignity task, whereas it is actually the mother who develops a child, who puts the foundation of strong values, discipline etc. Ayman, Online response
