This has reference to news report "No plan to set minimum age for marriage of girls," (Dec. 21). The government cannot bring about age limit for marriage of girls since there is nothing in the Quran and Sunnah. Our religion is based on what has been legislated by Allah and His Messenger Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). A girl is ready for marriage after she attains puberty. However it is up to the parents to decide on when she is fit for marriage. The girl has the right see and talk to and choose her partner. Islam is clear. The main problem is the ignorance of Muslims of their religion. Abu Sabri, Online response Even at the age of 15 the girls in question are still children. And by the way, so are boys of the same age. Why differentiate by gender? Why not simply set the legal age of marriage as 15 years of age, regardless of gender? Simon, Online response
