LOS ANGELES — They may be R&B's king and queen, but even a Hollywood royalty to the magnitude of Beyonce and Jay Z's fame and fortune are no match when a real-life billionaire decides to splurge on some cash. Beyoncé and Jay Z were dying to own an opulent Beverly Hills estate. The deal to purchase their dream home was almost sealed this month, until Swedish billionaire Markus Persson arrived on the scene to outbid the couple. Persson, who was the genius behind the video game Minecraft decided to spend US$70 million to outbid the Hollywood couple. The 35-year-old enjoyed a hefty paycheck after selling his company, Mojang, to Microsoft for a whopping US$2.5 billion. Persson's purchase is so far the highest-paid amount to any home in Beverly Hills. The mansion sits on a 23,00 sq feet property and comes with a garage that could accommodate 16 vehicle, a fully furnished eight bedrooms and 15 bathrooms with lush Toto Neorest toilets that come at US$5,600 each. The mansion also boasts of a 24-sitter, 18-foot onyx dining room table with Roberto Cavalli place settings for US$3,700 each. — Agencies
