RIYADH — The second International Conference on Alzheimer's Patients kicks off today (Monday) in the capital under the patronage of Prince Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz and will feature the participation of local and international experts. The two-day event, organized by the Saudi Society for Alzheimer's Patients, will feature a series of lectures and workshops that will discuss global developments in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The conference will feature leading experts such as Dr. Fahd Wahhabi, psychology consultant at King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh, and Dr. Martin Manuel Carrasco, director of the Psychiatry Research Institute in the Spanish city of Bilbao. The conference will discuss a range of themes, including how to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's and the services provided for the elderly in nursing homes. It will also highlight psychological and educational programs for caregivers and future treatments through stem cell therapy. The event is expected to open in the presence of organizers Prince Saud Bin Khalid Bin Abdullah Bin Abdulrahman and Princess Madawi Bint Muhammad Bin Abdullah Bin Abdulrahman. “The importance of the conference comes from the issues and latest developments that it will discuss, as it sheds light on the most common neurological disease among the elderly but without any effective treatment,” said Princess Madawi. King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center is hosting the conference.
