An internal inquiry has determined that Mumtaz Qadri imprisoned for murder in Pakistan's high security Adiala prison in Rawalpindi incited Muhammad Yousuf, a prison guard, to shoot Muhammad Asghar a 70-year-old prisoner convicted of blasphemy. Asghar, whom some doctors claim is mentally ill, was shot and wounded while in his cell. Yousuf had been deployed outside Qadri's cell and admitted to having taken religious lessons from him. Sadly Pakistani jails have become safe havens for terrorists. They run their usual business from their prison cells; coordinating terrorist attacks, arranging weapon supplies, running extortion cells - all under the very protection of law enforcers. Apparently, Adiala prison authorities are wasting their time investigating how an off-duty prison guard, Yousuf, entered the death row section of the prison carrying a handgun and a dagger and was able to shoot Asghar. Although all of Pakistan's borders with neighboring countries, India, Afghanistan and now Iran as well, are hot, the real danger lies inside the country itself. There have been attacks on Bannu and D I Khan jails wherein hundreds of Taliban escaped, attacks on the naval base and dockyard in Karachi, an attack on the aeronautical complex in Kamra, and list goes on. We find insiders helping the terrorists. When there are many Qadris are out there to brainwash people, we should not expect miracles from law enforcers.
