I am writing with regard to the article "Working women seek recognition" (Aug 23). The achievements of today's working woman can be appreciated if, and only if, she is also a good daughter, a good sister, a good wife, a good mother and a good grandmother. However, most of our working women today with an independent income have developed inflated egos. If a husband dreams of eating a meal prepared by his wife, the same meal that his mother used to cook for him, why doesn't she try to prepare it? Let her try, even if she does fail. Unfortunately, the expatriate maid cooks the food that her husband dreams about and the maid takes care of the children. SAQ, Online response II. Being a good cook is just one of the numerous roles played by a woman today. She is also a good teacher at home for her children, a businesswoman, a nurse, a doctor, a pilot or an adventurer scaling Mount Everest, etc. Perhaps that is why the role of the mother is given three times more importance in Islam. If we look at the great women of Islam, we realize that they have played a major role in the development of society. Irfan Ahmed, Online response
