I am writing with regard to the article "The difference between traffic laws in Saudi Arabia and the UAE" (Aug 22). There can be no comparison between traffic regulations in the UAE and in Saudi Arabia, as the UAE has one of the best traffic systems in the world while the Kingdom has one of the worst.
Have you ever noticed the bikers on Saudi roads? They endanger the lives of others and they do it right in front of the traffic police.
Do they stop at any traffic signal? Vehicles fifty years old and in extremely bad condition are running on the roads.
Who would believe that Saudi Arabia has 67 accidents every hour and millions of traffic violations per year?
Muhammad Saqib Khan, Online response II.
Why do Saudis respect traffic laws in Dubai and break them in Saudi Arabia? I don't think there is any difference between the laws in the two countries but the implementation of the law is different. In Dubai the law is implemented regardless of your social status or your origin. You can also take the traffic police to court if you feel you have been unfairly treated. The laws are transparent, your rights and the rights of the police in the law are clearly defined. That is what is missing in Saudi Arabia.
