I am writing with regard to the article “Why isn't English taught properly in our schools?” (Apr. 13). There is no doubting the fact that a good command of the English language, both spoken and written, will help many people in their everyday life. However, we should also ask why learning Arabic is not compulsory for a lot of expatriate company employees. If you set up a business in the UK, you would automatically expect all the employees to speak English. Why is it not the same here? Arabic should also be taught across all grades in all international schools in Saudi Arabia. Simon, Online response
