JAISALMER — A last-minute cancellation of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's scheduled visit to Barmer has triggered speculation that his party is clandestinely supporting independent candidate Jaswant Singh instead of his own party candidate Harish Choudhary. Whatever be the reasons for the Congress vice-president's cancellation of Barmer visit, but assumptions of his support for Jaswant Singh took forefront in the political debate doing the rounds. However, Chaudhary vehemently denied any such motive from the top party leader. Choudhary, who is in Jaisalmer for his campaigning, claimed that Rahul's visit to Barmer was only tentatively proposed which could not be finalized in the end. He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was spreading the rumor as the party is an expert in such activities. The Congress candidate said there was no truth in that Rahul's visit was deliberately cancelled to benefit Jaswant Singh. He also claimed that Singh will get votes from the BJP vote share and there is no question of Congress' traditional voters going to the BJP or to the independent candidate. Choudhary said the BJP is the one which is supporting Jaswant internally. Taking a dig at Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, the Congress candidate said his party is not contesting from the seat from a prestige point but with an intention of serving people and looking after their interest.
